"Making the world a better place for people who are blind"

Bosma Enterprises has selected EMP Technical Group in collaboration with Dayton-based Advanced System Consultants (ASC) to provide an automated warehouse management solution for Bosma’s new 110,000 square foot facility in Indianapolis.

Bosma Enterprises is dedicated to empowering people who are blind or visually impaired by creating opportunities that lead to the achievement of each individual’s employment, economic, social, and self-determination goals.

EMP Technical Group partners with ASC on medium to large warehouse automation systems.  ASC’s warehouse management software, ASCTrac is a full-feature, modular WMS that is Windows-based and uses SQL Server for its database.  EMP Technical Group also partners with Motorola for portable devices and Zebra for thermal transfer label printers.

ASC and EMP Technical Group created a user-friendly system for Bosma’s production workers of which 90% are blind or visually-impaired.  For the mobile terminals, vocalization is used with a product from SyVox. ASC and

EMP Technical Group created a user-friendly system for Bosma’s production workers of which 90% are blind or visually-impaired.  For the mobile terminals, vocalization is used with a product from SyVox.  The SyVox speech engine resides on the portable terminal itself and runs on Windows Mobile.  The portable terminal is a Motorola WT4090 which is a wearable device with a ring bar code scanner.  JAWS software will be used for the PC functions vocally translating the written word on the PC screen.

Bosma uses Sage Software’s MAS 200 as their ERP system.  There will be an ASCII file transfer gateway between the ASC and MAS 200 databases. This approach keeps inventory and order data between the two systems in sync and reduces overall costs. Bosma expects to be live with the new system by year end.
